We wanted a broader perspective on where agencies are today with multicultural hiring, retaining and marketing, so we knew to ask Alexis Davis Smith, owner of Atlanta’s PRecise Communications.

She was part of Ketchum’s – and perhaps one of the agency world’s – first ethnic-marketing team, as it was called 25 years ago. In our candid conversation (100-second highlights above), she didn’t disappoint.

From newspapers capitalizing Negro and Black to advising how agencies today should interview, engage and market to people of color, the Philly native says it’s time for agencies to act like her Eagles and fly “effectively to the mountaintop.”
